Why this piece earned its place.

Portable lighting is easy to get wrong in one of two directions: either it sacrifices real brightness and battery life for a novelty shape, or it's weatherproof on paper but too fragile in practice for actual outdoor use. We assessed Cheerio against both failure points before including it.

We assessed the IP55 rating, the stainless steel base, and the stated 90-hour battery life against what indoor-outdoor lighting is actually asked to do across a Canadian year, from dinner parties to damp balcony evenings. The magnetic charging and dimmer-with-memory function are small design choices, but they're the kind that determine whether a lamp gets used daily or left in a drawer after the first week.

The collection does not currently carry a lighting piece, so this is a new category for us rather than a duplicate of an existing product.

We evaluated this product against The Choir Standard using available specifications, supplier information, material data, and customer-use considerations. It met all five criteria. Standard 04 in particular — a powder-coated steel base and a genuinely weatherproof rating mean this lamp is built to outlast a single season, rather than needing to be replaced once the weather turns.
